Quisquiliae Vestis

This jacket is part of my “Quisquiliae 21st century Dadaism: Art and Design for All Possible Worlds” series, and it addresses the decline of the publishing industry caused by new online business models, economic crises, and increased commercialization. First, I made Dadaist collages from upcycled newspapers, magazines, and found objects. Then, I draped the collages on a mannequin and started forming the shape of the jacket in order to make the structure voluminous and avant-garde. I stitched the zipper so that the jacket would be easy to put on or take off, and I added plastic inner and outer linings to make it rain resistant. I also sewed on decorations made of mesh packaging, jingle bells, and bubble wrap to add texture and make the jacket more chic. I used only a few colors to make sure that the parts of the jacket did not distract from each other. Finally, I added ostrich feathers for a “haute couture” look.
