This work features hundreds of jingle bells, plastic flowers, plastic bottles, and plastic straps. It is a wearable art form influenced by the Rococo and Art Nouveau movements and by Alexander McQueen’s dress for Björk’s 2004 music video “Who Is It.” The coat serves as a canvas for me to design and manipulate found objects and trash, transforming them into “haute couture.” It also presents Dadaism’s focus on “chance,” because the coat was once an army uniform and now it has a new title and a new life. Because of the many decorative ornaments and heavy embroidery, the coat also portrays my ideas of “seamlessness” and “maximalism.” Furthermore, I wanted to address the problem of pollution, so I upcycled plastic bottles and found objects by turning them into flowers for the coat.
